Each August, new educators from across the district come together for our annual New Educator Orientation, a day designed to welcome them to Nashoba, introduce them to the people and resources that will support them, and help them feel prepared for the start of the school year.
The day began with principals introducing the new educators joining their teams, followed by welcomes from School Committee Chair Leah Vivirito, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Laura Friend, and Mentor Coordinator Laura Pagington.
During a “Get to Know Nashoba” session, new educators rotated through stations hosted by district staff from Technology, Finance, Operations and Safety, Human Resources, Teaching and Learning, Digital Learning, and Student Services, giving them time to learn about the district and ask questions before the start of the school year.
Following lunch and a welcome from NREA President Kevin Keaveney, new educators learned more about the NRSD Mentor Program, which pairs each new educator with an experienced mentor for their first year. They received an overview of the program, including monthly workshops and expectations, and had time to connect with their mentors. The afternoon concluded with new educators returning to their schools alongside their mentors to begin preparing their classrooms and getting ready to welcome students.
